Reiki is not a practice that is designed to cure or otherwise heal–it is a strong ally for supporting one on their own personal healing journey. It can offer reassurance and it can offer space for ones own intelligence to step up –integrate, and connect regardless of the outcome.
Reiki is hard to define. It is very personal. It can be quite powerful. It can affect fields without even touching or laying hands on someone. I recently worked on an elderly gentleman and I did not lay hands on him, yet I could feel a softening, a heart opening that was palpatable. No words for what was happening and yet, clearly, there was something happening-we both felt it.
I had an experience as well where a lady was so comfortable with the session (in that happy place) that she did not want it to end. Sometimes Reiki sessions can be just that–so calming and peaceful. Being open to receiving can allow the body’s own innate healing wisdom to help.
People receiving often give me clues as to how the session has impacted them sometimes describing color, temperature, images or just a feeling. I can not pretend to know how it all works. I must trust that each Reiki session is exactly what each person needs regardless of where I focus my attention or place my hands.
Helping someone with a Reiki session is quite an honor. To be invited to hold space requires vigilance to my own health and showing up without an agenda. Being a clear open channel so that the energy moves through and does not require my own personal energy. That is why it is said that Reiki can do no harm and that Reiki is a win win for the one giving and the one receiving. Reiki is a state of being and a state of mind. It is a simple tool that has given me a purpose and a joy. I have something I can do for me and something I can share with others.
