The practice of Reiki is hard to explain. You almost have to experience it for yourself. I have heard folks describe it as a way to “reboot” their body. For me, it is a gentle reassurance that things are moving, that my nervous system is quieting and allowing whatever healing needs to happen and unfold in its right timing. Self Reiki is a regular part of my day. When I formulate products, pick plants, etc. I use Reiki. When I cook, I use Reiki. When I send the boys off in the car or to sporting events/practices, I use Reiki. When I clean my home, I use Reiki. It has helped me to help my family close and afar. I enjoy giving, in part because in giving you actually receive.
“Attunements” (the passing down of symbols from the Reiki masters) are part of the Reiki trainings and these “symbols,” as well as the lineage, bring a strong energy to a session. Some experience a deep sense of peace and relaxation; others feel heat and see colors, and still others connect with something that is hard to name. Whatever the response, it is exactly as it is supposed to be and trusting that and the mystery is what we are asked to do. At times a Reiki session can be uncomfortable because there might be energy channels opened up and released. Again, this is energy work and the light hands or no hands can do no harm and it is so individual.
Each session that I do is different. In my Reiki work, I call on the spirit of plants to assist. This is not the case in traditional Reiki. I have also been doing a Chi Gong training that supports my ability to center and supports my being a clear and open channel for this work. I am attending classes at the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism in order to deepen my connection to the plant world.
I am seeing more clients who are dealing with more intense personal situations, and it is exciting for me to continue to learn and expand with the practice. I am excited to help people on their path – I am not qualified to diagnose or treat, but merely provide space for a person to find their own sense of healing from within in a safe and sacred space. I look forward to building this part of my practice.
