Generally, I am awake to my day’s experiences and yet there is a whole other world that opens to me during sleep. When I am tired, it becomes difficult to function in either world. I know that all too well, because I have not had great sleep since my children were born. I have not given up on (pre-kid?) deep restorative and restful sleep, but rather have turned my attention towards lucid dreaming and making that nocturnal time more productive. I relish the opportunity to tune in to my thoughts and prayers in the stillness of the evening and early morning hours and await the mood and visions that are offered up in that rich and powerful time where I am neither fully awake or dead to the world.
Constant wondering how I can tap into the messages that come to me through dreams and work more intimately with the unseen world — the world of my benevolent spirit guides? How can I drop into a deep restful place and avoid the price of being depleted from interrupted sleep or exhausted with everyday stress? Paying attention to how busy days transition to sleep and later awaken and begin my day has a tremendous impact on ease in my life and it helps me to feel more resourced. When I become a co-creator in my realities — magic and creativity happen. I can function and live my dreams!
Dreams have fascinated me for a long time now. I have a journal near my bed and record as best I can the mood or the strongest images from the night. Sometimes, I write; sometimes I express them through painting. Most times when I ask questions, the spiritual world gives me back insights, although I admittedly am still working on understanding the interpretations. My journaling practice takes a more focused awareness during the Holy Nights (Dec. 24-Jan. 6) when the solar (365 days) and lunar (252-3 days) cycles are off by those 13 mystical days and it is said that the veils between the worlds is thinner, perhaps making the unseen world more accessible to seekers of timeless wisdom held in the cosmos/stars.
I am very aware of how much easier it is to “let go” at night when I have paid closer attention to a pre-night ritual. When I leave technology behind and am soaking in an epsom salt bath by 10pm. I have made significant strides in reducing the “undigestible” parts of my day–the excess processed foods and disturbing movies or images in the day, while making more space for regular time in nature.
For the past few years, I have enjoyed the process of making hand sewn intentional dream pillows. This is an ancient practice or art. Grandmothers used to make dream pillows to assist family members with headaches, aid their connection to spirit, assist better sleep, to remember and guide dreams, ease pain and discomfort, as well as helping to bring in love and creativity. And, I have enjoyed working with the power of the calming and relaxing herbs to benefit these and other desires. The plants have tremendous capacity to support my ability to drop into a receptive and healing space.
These herbal dream sachets are designed with simplicity in mind; for women looking for a more natural solution to the frazzle of sleep deprivation. They are also intended for women on a path of finding a more relaxed place to connect with spirit. These sachet herbs are selected for their healing and magical properties. With sleep “issues” on the rise in general, I like to call on the power of the herbs to bring clarity and awareness to my life and to improve my mood, calm my busy thoughts, and bring inner peace.
Getting the Most Out of Your Dream Routine
Begin with a ritual of unplugging from any technology a few hours before bed-perhaps enjoy a cup of herbal tea, a bath, or other calming activities. Place your sachet by your bed or under your pillow and give a little squeeze and whisper prayers for an intentional and protective evening. To remember your dreams, have a journal nearby your bed to capture a few words, a mood, or images upon waking. Call on your guides, archangels, and other helping spirits with love and gratitude. And, for more information on other products that support sleep (lavender eye pillows, floral bath salts, or a kit to make your own pillow, etc.) check out the Blair’s Herbals online store!
Sweet Dreaming!
Dream Pillow Classes
The dream pillow class was extremely nourishing for my soul. I had never sewn before but that did not matter once we were immersed in thoughtful silence and the intention was set. As a mother that is constantly giving and doing, it was therapeutic to just let my creativity take hold and see which direction I was led. Also, I never felt inferior and felt so loved and supported in my own craft how ever beginner that was! Thank- you Blair!!

Please note: If you are pregnant, consult your physician before utilizing herbs. If you experience any reaction to the herbs, stop using the sachet immediately and seek medical attention. The sachets are intended for external use only and as directed. They are not meant to diagnose or treat sleep issues. After the herbs lose their potency, return them to the Earth. Thanks for choosing Blair’s Herbals!
