Fresh Perspectives on my Reiki Practice

I was concerned that breaking my wrist would negatively impact my ability to work with clients. Interestingly, I have found the opposite. In addition to the learnings that I described in my previous blog, this break has enriched my practice.

First, I learned how to slow down and listen more deeply. After 10 days or so of exploring whether I could in fact give sessions, I understood that I would need to be flexible–to adapt to having one hand channel and use the other as a support. It would be different, but perhaps even help me develop more tools to complement my work. I would be challenged to trust this way of “being” more and “doing” less. I would be tuning in to the subtle energy fields in a new and expanded way. Unlike massage, light hand touch or off body techniques can still be performed without needing the total use of a hand. Reiki is a mystical, magical intentional heart-centered process that allows a person to receive exactly what they need in a session. And, deep relaxation is one of those most common benefits–a way to drop into the stillness where magic can happen and a frazzled nervous system can find some peace.

In-Office Sessions

One obstacle to overcome was the obvious purple hard cast. I had a sense that people might feel sensitive to the fact I had a broken wrist and not want to put any additional stress on me. Actually, working energy is one of the best things I can do for my own healing because endless, abundant energy runs through me; it’s a universal source energy that both the client and I benefit from.

Distance Reiki

Since the break, I have started taking on more distance clients. Getting to and from the office initially was difficult to manage on my own. I could be comfortable and relaxed at home and my energy would be more focused and direct. Distance sessions work in a similar way to in person sessions and can be used for people recovering from hospitalizations/multiple and changing home and health circumstances and not up for coming in.

Distance sessions work well for those unable to visit in my office yet still want to receive energy support from the comfort of their own home. A distance Reiki session involves the process of connecting in with the energy of the client and sensing their energetic field. The client and I agree on a time for the session, but I would not need to speak with the client over the phone during the session. Sessions generally last twenty minutes to half and hour and include a follow-up call.

If something comes up and you feel you would like to throw your name or someone you love into the circle, please email me name, location and the challenge. Distance Reiki can help with local and global issues. I spend a little time after my daily meditation time to bring in those who might benefit from a little extra prayer into my meditation. It is a sweet way to support one another during these trying times and any extra energies are lovingly given to Earth, the plants and the elementals.

Thank you for the commitment you make to self care and for allowing me to be part of your journey–the good, the challenging, the dreams and the growth.
